This talk was given at a local tedx event, produced independently of the ted conferences. andrew and his wife, gabriella, are the creators of “home”, the 207. 10 years ago andrew odom burst onto the modern tiny house movement not even knowing it was a scene. truth be told, at that time it wasn't. but because of the efforts of he and countless others, it has become one and he has remained at the forefront for much of the last decade including his current involvement as the managing editor of tiny house magazine. Andrew and gabriella discovered the tiny house movement right when they were realizing that the american “dream” was actually a nightmare. inspired to create the best lives possible for their family, they got rid of 90% of their worldly belongings and designed and built their “home” tiny house. The tiny house movement has been influenced by and borrows heavily from a range of movements that share similar ideals, such as thoreau’s transcendentalism, the back to land movement, pragmatism, environmentalism, voluntary simplicity, downshifting, as well as minimalism (nathan 2014; kilman 2016; heather 2017; kamal 2017; shearer and burton. When the woods picked up the tiny house, they said there were some building mistakes. for example, lindsay said the company used the wrong tires and axles, and the roof was poorly insulated. they said they spent an extra $40,000 fixing the builder's missteps. their story points to the larger issues within the unregulated tiny house movement.
